Korean Society for Service in Asia was founded in 1992, in partnership with the churches of Asia, with the aim of creating and developing a just and peaceful society with the heart of sharing and volunteering in 4 Southeast Asian Countries (Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia). We support programs related to social development such as Leadership Training, Technical Education, Against Poverty, and Medical Aid.

Korean Society for Service in Asia

Korean Society for Service in Asia is a volunteer organization established to pour love to our close neighbors in Asia, especially our brothers and sisters of Indochina, with the joint effort of the mature Korean church. It was founded in 1992, and in early 1999, it received permission for registration as an incorporated association from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, allowing us to launch this new endeavor.

We support programs in relation to the development of a just and peaceful society, by training leaders in mission target areas, Technical Education, Against Poverty, and Medical Aid. In order to establish justice and peace in Asia, we will first expand our activities to Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia, and then to North Korea through China.

Historically, Korea owes a lot to Asia. Please partner with the ministry of Korean Society for Service in Asia to share the spiritual, human, and material resources of the Korean church with Asia.

By sharing and serving the human, spiritual, and material resources shared by Korean churches and Christians, we not only support the development of churches and society in Indochina and other Asian countries, but also enhance the quality of life of the human community and bring peace to Asia. We also aim to contribute to the construction work of the society of Indochina and other Asian countries.

Mission Theology

Through the history of the Church, we can see that Missionary Church was the closest to its essence. The history of the church in the early Christian era was the history of Mission, and the theology of the church was the theology of Mission. The church confirmed its identity in missionary work. When it comes to Missionary Church, the church is the most faithful to its essence.

Task at Mission

Over the past century, the Korean church has grown in missionary devotion with love from several brothers and sisters in Christ and many other churches from around the world. The Korean church has received unmeasurable support materially, mentally, and spiritually. In addition, the national power of Korea has been greatly improved, enabling Korea to have a greater impact in the world. The Korean church now partners with other churches of the world to share the gospel.

We believe that the spiritual revival, human and physical growth of the Korean church is God’s love for the Korean people and churches, and it is God’s Mission that God has given to our people and churches that has raised it as one of the most vibrant and moving churches in the world today. We confess, as promised to Abraham, “all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3), the peoples throughout the world are blessed for the grace we have received. We hope that our confession is not just a confession based on lips, but that we can transcend all boundaries to share the love we have received and accept it as an ability and opportunity to practice our Mission to serve all nations.

The Practice of Serving and Share

Many churches around the world have seen the essence of the Gospel in growth of the Korean church experienced by the history of suffering, which is marked by numerous wars, colonial rule, and poverty. In addition, we sincerely hope to share the experience of growing the church wonderfully in the cultures of other religions, such as Confucianism and Buddhism, the practice of the Gospel, sharing with the poor and marginalized, and the experience of prophetic evidence in the midst of political dictatorship and social turmoil.

This means more than just sharing human and material resources, it means sharing specific testimonies of the Gospel in ‘Now’ and ‘Here’. Therefore, Korean Society for Service in Asia clarifies “Serving and Share” in the words and ministry of our Savior Jesus as the essential dimension of the proclamation of the Gospel. Also, it pursues to practice “Serving and Share”, serving not only in terms of human and physical needs but also in the depth of the Gospel acquired on the Korean Peninsula and in the dimension of faith experience.

The Church that Shares Together

We repent that the missionary work of the Korean church so far has had the face of self-satisfaction and self-display. We think it is time for us to clarify self-awareness as debtors of love before God and the churches around the world, and to present a creative and alternative mission model.

We believe that the church need a change of thought such as servant service from the self-display mission in the past; a church and mission that pursues balanced growth of quantity and quality from a church and mission focused on quantitative growth; a mission with the spirit of the Cross rather than a mission of the crusaders’ spirit; and a church that shares together from a church that receives. This means overcoming the mission’s perspective focused on sending missionaries, performing missionary work according to a holistic mission’s perspective, and actively practicing cooperation with local churches.

Since 1992, under the banner of “Korean church with Asian people”, Korean Society for Service in Asia has been doing volunteer missions by sharing the Gospel in Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia, where there are pains of war and grief of poverty.
